Gabriela Montero’s visionary interpretations and unique improvisational gifts have won her a devoted following around the world. Anthony Tommasini remarked in The New York Times, "Montero's playing has everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power in climactic moments, soulful lyricism in the ruminative passages and, best of all, unsentimental expressivity."

Monterro is an award-winning and best-selling recording artist, also. Awards include: "Choc de la musique de l'année" award, 2006, from 'Le Monde de la Musique'; 2 Echo Klassik Awards (Germany's annual, major classical music award) for the 2006 Keyboard Instrumentalist of the Year and 2007 Award for Classical Music without Borders; a 2008 Grammy nomination; and a 2015 Latin Grammy award for "Best Classical Album".

Montero was appointed first "Honorary Consul" by Amnesty International in 2015, for her human rights advocacy in Venezuela.
